Sometimes, it's just a simple change that makes a design feel completely new. That's exactly how I feel about the latest addition to the Pollywoggles Pattern Collection!
It can't be a surprise to many of you that I love woven fabrics. I love the stability and precision. While my heart is easily captured by bright cottons and yarn-dyed linens, there are some things that are just more comfortable and casual when made with a stretchy knit instead. Sleeves, for example. Which brings me to the most exciting new feature of the newly updated Gaspe pattern... a faux-layered knit long sleeve!
Gaspe was originally released in 2016 under the name Benjamin Tyler. It captured exactly what I was hoping for... a casual woven shirt that did not require buttons. The only thing missing about the design, was the option for long sleeves. A woven sleeve just wouldn't have suited this style... but I always hoped I'd eventually add a long sleeve option that was perfect for this design. Now, it's here... and it's SO simple! While the main shirt is still designed for woven fabric, the lower long sleeve section is to be made with knit fabric such as cotton lycra, jersey, or even french terry.
The front placket of this shirt is just the right size for getting the shirt on and off, but not so large that it needs a button. (That said, adding a button or a snap is a simple modification that you could choose to make.) The placket construction was commented on a lot by the testing team as being easy and enjoyable, so if plackets usually intimidate you I think you will find this one is not something to be nervous about.
The front of the shirt features a patch pocket, which is optional. The back has a large yoke that is perfect for featuring a fun printed cotton. Plaids are fabulous in this pattern, and it really makes a statement if you cut the back yoke on the bias! Or, how about getting creative with mixing fabric types?! I've made several of these shirts myself, and I think my favorite one was made with a fine corduroy for the main shirt and a wonderful large cotton print on the back yoke.
Gaspe can be made for boys or for girls... it's all about the fabric choice! My favorite thing about it is that even though the style is casual, the fact that it is designed for woven fabrics means it straddles the fence a bit on offering something a little more classic too.
Gaspe will be on SALE through until noon EST on Tuesday, November 4th.
And don't forget to join the Group on Facebook to see what others are sewing!
All those who already own Benjamin Tyler have already been sent an email with the update. If you have not gotten it, please check your email spam/junk folder, and if it isn't there then contact me and I will make sure that you get it.
Gaspe will be a staple in our year-round wardrobe, thanks to this new long sleeve addition. And I love the fact that I can use some of the smaller pieces of my fabric collection to make a big statement with this design!
Thank you so much for stopping by my little corner of the digital world. When I'm not designing (or, more likely, attempting to keep up with housework or schooling my three rug rats!) you'll probably find me with my nose in a book, escaping for a few precious moments into a world of fiction or learning with single-minded focus about my latest interest. Here, I'd like to share with you some of the things that I'm currently working on and a bit about all the ways I like to keep my creative juices flowing!
Just for Fun...
