Size Charts for Pollywoggles Patterns
Every Pollywoggles Pattern includes a guide with average measurements for each size. Not all children of a specific age fall into these averages though, so it is important to measure the child you are sewing for whenever possible. This will allow you to customize the fit, and will ensure you are happy with the final result.
How to Measure
Measuring accurately will help ensure you make the correct size. To make it easier for your child to stand straight, ask them to stand with their heels and head against a wall. For some more tips on how to measure children, as well as a handy place to record measurements and which size your child is wearing in a particular pattern, download and print these Measurement and Sizing Record Cards.
Pattern Template Assembly
PDF patterns come with pattern pieces that you will trace and/or cut out in order to construct your garment. One big difference between paper patterns you purchase in a store and digital pattern pieces, is in the assembly. There are many different ways that designers digitize and construct their pattern pieces, but for most patterns you will be required to put together more than one piece of paper in order to create the template you will use to cut our the fabric for your chosen size. For Pollywoggles Patterns, here is a quick illustration of how to put together multiple page template pieces:
The lines of you pattern pieces will extend past the letter-ovals, right to the edge of where you printer is able to print, so if you'd rather not take the time to cut or fold along the dotted line, you don't have to! You may choose to simply overlap the pages, making sure that the letter-ovals are directly on top of one another. One way to make this even easier is to hold or tape the pages up against a bright window, so you can see very clearly through the page layers.
All template pages are also designed so that they will print and be able to be pieced together whether you are printing on 8.5"x11" or A4 paper.

What is a pdf pattern? how do i use one?
PDF is a type of digital file that can be sent from one person to another and look exactly the same. All the text and images are 'locked' so that no matter where in the world a person may be or what type of computer they are using, the file will look and work the same way.
Sewing patterns that are sold in PDF format are able to be downloaded immediately, giving you instant access to the instructions and pattern pieces so you can get started right away. These types of patterns also include a wealth of information, including detailed step-by-step instructions and sewing tips to show you everything you need to know.
The one thing you will need to have if you intend to use a PDF sewing pattern is a PDF Reader. I highly recommend Adobe Reader, which is free and very widely used. You can download it from https://get.adobe.com/reader/. Once you have purchased your PDF sewing pattern, you will be given a "download" link via email. This will also be available on your order confirmation page, so I highly recommend that you download it immediately, before closing your browser window. If you do not receive the email, and it was not filtered to your spam folder, please let me know and I will ensure that the file is resent. It is always a good idea to back-up your files, by saving them to an external hard drive, or a cloud storage such as Dropbox. Once your pattern has been downloaded and saved on your own computer, you can get started with your sewing project! Details are included in each pattern for how to size, construct, print, and assemble your pattern pieces.

how are your pattern pieces drafted? Do you offer "layered" printing?
All Pollywoggles pattern templates are digitally drafted and are 'nested', with all sizes being differentiated by colors. All colors print clearly also in black ink or greyscale.
Print-at-home and Large Format (copy shop) files do not have layers (the ability to select and print only specific sizes). Because the software Pollywoggles uses does not allow for layers to be added to multiple-page PDF's, very careful attention is given to making the pattern as paper-efficient as possible. A Printing Guide is in included which tells you exactly which pages to print at home for every size & option. Pollywoggles patterns are among the most paper-efficient and simplest to assemble PDF patterns available! Extremely clear nesting also allows for the Large Format file to be an ideal "master copy" from which to trace individual sizes. Projector Files (new in 2020), do include layers so that individual sizes can be turned on and off to provide the clearest projection.
Though you can't print single sizes, pattern pieces as clear, concise, and eco-friendly as possible by careful placement of the pattern lines so that you can print the minimum number of pages and use the least amount of ink. For example, instead of having to tape together a huge rectangle; Pollywoggles pattern pieces are separated by what it is for (ie. you would tape a pants piece separate from a shirt or sleeve piece). Overlapping lines are avoided whenever possible so that more than one size can be cut from a single printing. If a single line will do for more than one size, extra lines are eliminated. Also, in most cases you are given both measurements for rectangular pieces as well as optional pattern pieces, and if a piece can be cut on the fold, that is how the pattern piece is made. The lines on Pollywoggles pattern pages extend the full width of the printable part of the page, so if you'd rather not trim them, you can overlap instead.

How do i contact you if I have a question?
I am available by email or messaging me on my facebook page if you have questions about the pattern or any trouble with your download. You can also join my Pattern Group on facebook as well, to ask questions or share photos of your work. Please note that I do not always receive or respond to messages sent to my personal facebook profile, so please use my business page or email to contact me directly. I also ask that you give me a little bit of time to get back to you if you do message me (I'm only one person, and a busy mom myself), but I will do my very best to help you work through any issues you may come across and to ensure you are happy with your experience purchasing a Pollywoggles pattern. Keep in mind time zone differences (I am in Canada, on Eastern Time), and that on evenings and weekends, especially Sundays, I may not get back to you until the next day.
How Do I know if I have the most recent update to a pattern?
Occasionally an update to an existing pattern is released. This may be due to a change to the instructions or pattern pieces for better clarity or fit, or it may be a simple error that was missed during initial proofreading. If it is a major update affecting the fit or construction, the release of the update will be announced through Facebook and a new copy will be emailed to all previous purchasers, using the email address on file for the original order. Updates may not be sent out for minor errors such as a spelling mistake, though a new copy of the pattern will be uploaded for future purchasers.
In the footer of each page in the pattern instructions, there is a coded version number. If you are unsure if you have received the most up-to-date copy, please check this list and compare to the version number on your copy of the pattern. If the number does not match, you can contact me any time to request a new copy for your records.
