About the Name...
Banff was the first National Park to be established in Canada, and is located in the Rocky Mountains. The area now known worldwide as Banff, was home to a number of First Nations peoples for traditional land uses. Promoted first as a tourist destination for European settlers before shifting toward conservation and protection, Banff has a complicated history, and the process of reconciliation is ongoing.
The scenery is dominated by mountain peaks and turquoise glacier lakes. Anyone hiking on the kilometers of trails should be watching for grizzly bears, cougars, timber wolves, moose, and bighorn sheep.
