Behind the Name
The county of “Simcoe” in Ontario, Canada is an area that stretches from the northwest shores of Lake Simcoe to the southern edge of Georgian Bay. There are towns in this region that are well known for having unique character, including the skiing town of Collingwood and the summertime fun of Wasaga Beach. When I think of Simcoe though, what comes to mind for me is the Lake that shares its name. Lake Simcoe is a large inland lake, and as a child these were the waters where I learned to waterski and sail, and where I would stand as still as could be in the warm shallow water so that minnows could nibble on my toes.
