Behind the Name
Located in Nunavut, Sirmilik National Park is one of Canada’s most northern and
remote parklands. Sirmilik is an Inuktitut word meaning “place of the glaciers”
and features ice floes, rocky cliffs, and glacier valleys. Polar bears, arctic
wolves and foxes, narwhals, caribou, and thousands of migratory shorebirds all
call this area home.
